Update! (14/04/2010 22:19) |
It's here! Finally I feel like the outdoor season has properly started with all the sunny weather this week! I've shot a few tournaments so far, one Fita and a few imperial rounds, and things are looking on the up! The Fita was at Chippenham which was a really good shoot but I didn't do very well because all my sight marks were wrong (I'm still not sure why)! So only finished on 1219 which I suppose isn't too bad considering. I also ordered some arrows the other day and got them through the post earlier, after assembling them all I'm really pleased at how they shoot. It's not that they're a different spine but just a new set of the same spine, at least I know they all shoot well now and have confidence in my equipment again! All in all its been a good few weeks really and my next shoot is the Selection Shoot this weekend which I'm really looking forward to! Speak soon Ashe |
National Senior Indoors (13/03/2010 10:08) |
3 weeks ago I shot in the Senior Indoors for the first time, it had a different feel to it compared with the juniors but the level of competition was excellent. In the qualification I didn't shoot brilliantly scoring a 548. At this point I thought it was going to be close whether I made the cut off or not, and I was right, I had to have a shoot off with Jamie and another archer to see the two who went through to eliminations and made it through with an X! My prize being the number 32 ranked archer and shooting against Simon Terry! I shot pretty well in my match and was quite pleased as it was the best shooting I had done all day just when I needed it but my 113 wasn't enough against Simons 116. Better luck next year! Junior National Indoor Championships (13/03/2010 10:02) |
Sorry I haven't blogged in a while! I'll try harder from now on! It seems like ages ago now but back in December I shot in the Junior National Indoors, technically I shot okay scoring a 582 (i think!) but it wasn't enough this year and I came 3rd place with Jamie Fisher coming 2nd and Brett Warburton coming 1st. Big congratulations to Andrew Randall and Mark Nesbitt who shot 586 each to get joint 1st place in the U18 Recurve Men! Speak soon Ashe |
Evesham Fita 18m (13/11/2009 21:16) |
Hi All, I recently shot at the Evesham Fita 18m 3 Spot which was a great shoot. I was not shooting particularly well during the week leading up to the competition but I was very pleased with how I performed and felt my technique was pretty consistent and I scored 571 with 34 10's which I am quite happy with and is a PB. Now for some hard practice in the rain during the winter! Speak soon Ashe |
Oxford Archers Fita 70m and H2H (26/08/2009 23:09) |
![]() After Utah I started work on some technical issues and they have started to pay off. I shot at the Oxford Archers Fita 70m and H2H which was a really well run shoot with music in the background which was a nice addition. The 70m round was not too good with only a 592 which ranked me 6th, however the conditions were very difficult with variable, strong wind and lashes of rain on and off. My first match started off a bit poor with a 96 end result but still sent me to the next round. My second match was better but I tied with my opponent on 100 a piece. However in the tiebreak I shot an X to my opponents 6 so went through to the Quarters. In the quarters I shot my highest match with a reasonable 104 considering the tough conditions and this sent me to the Semi's. In my semi-final I came up against Jon Shales and shot a 101 to his 106 but was still in for 3rd place if I won my bronze medal match. The bronze medal match was good after getting drenched but scraped a win with 100 to Mike Pearts 99. Overall a great local competition which was really well run and will definately be shooting it again next year. Speak soon Ashe |
World Archery Youth Championships - Utah, USA (26/08/2009 22:53) |
![]() Got back from Utah about a month ago now from the Junior World Champs. It was a great trip with my best performance yet by far. The venue was Weber State University which was a great venue if a little windy at times. The qualification round started off a bit shaky with a 267 at 70m! 60m was great for technique with my best technique in a competition so far but my score was a lower than average 313. 50m was also very good technically but only scored a 288. To finish the round I shot a 339 at 30m, this was a good performance and just scraped me above 1200 with 1206. The H2Hs were OK again with a shaky 105 which put me through to the next round by around 30 points! The next round I shot well but the wind was tricky at times and scored 104 to my opponents 112. Definately a big learning curve for this trip and looking forward to my next trip in the near future which will probably be an indoor shoot. Speak soon Ashe |
2nd Leg of Europa Cup - Italy (26/08/2009 22:25) |
![]() Well, Italy was another great experience, very hot and dry. Practice was good with a 627 Fita 70m but the qualification round was not as good, I was struggling with my timing a bit so only scored a 1248 Metric 1. However, this ranked me 18th as the weather was challenging at times with the afternoon turning into light showers and thunder in the distance! The H2Hs were much better here, with a slightly shaky start but scored a reasonable 104. However I was unlucky in the draw this time and lost to my opponents 108 which made me the 3rd highest loser and ranked me 18th. My next trip with the team now is the World Archery Youth Championships in Utah, USA! Next blog, Utah! Ashe |
1st Leg of Europa Cup - Poland (26/08/2009 22:01) |
![]() Sorry I haven't blogged in a while, but here is a little summary of my first international trip on the GB Team. The competition venue was in a stadium in Legnica which made for some very good weather with little wind. Official practice gave me a confidence boost as I was scoring on par for a 330 at 50m and I was pretty confident at the start of the qualification round. 70m was a bit shaky and I did not feel I shot to my best, only scoring a 298. 60m was better but my timing was not very good only giving a 322 at 60m. 50m was much better for score with a 310 which was a bit closer to my average. However I shot poorly at 30m with a 329 because I was trying too hard. However still a PB for the Metric 1 of 1259. The H2Hs were a great experience! Practice was great, the end before my first H2H I shot a 60/60 with 5Xs and then shot a 93 in my first match! My second match was much better for nerves but still only shot a 95 and lost. This ranked me 32nd overall which is alright for my first international. So overall a great experience, and really enjoyed the trip. Next stop, Italy! Speak soon Ashe |
Selection Shoot for the Youth World Outdoor Champs - Utah USA (03/05/2009 21:16) |
I travelled up last saturday for the world champs selection shoot on the 25th and 26th April. Saturday started with a typical British downpour in the morning which woke everyone up nicely. My 70m distance was not that good to start (270) but after I warmed up and got into a groove I shot a lot better, with a respectable 303 for 60m considering the wind, a very pleasing 301 for 50m and 336 for 30m. This put me in 1st place for the Saturday and with a 636 Fita 720 Cadet on the Sunday I was also in 1st place. I then won 5 out of 6 of my H2H matches to place me 1st overall and gain me a place to shoot in the World Champs in July! Speak soon Ashe |
New Target, Case and Limbs! (14/04/2009 21:08) |
![]() Got a nice new target through the post a couple of weeks ago (piccy on left), courtesy of Clickers Archery and I have to say I love it. It's really nice to be able to shoot all week with all my fletches on. I also found out a few weeks ago that I will be going to Poland from the 10th-17th of May for the 1st Leg of the European Junior Cup in Legnica, it should be really good and hopefully the food won't be too bad. I will train even harder now to make sure I am prepared for the shoot. I am now just awaiting my flight case and 2nd set of limbs together with some bits and pieces which will arrive tomorrow then I'm all set for Poland after I've made a few strings. There's nothing like waiting for lots of nice equipment to be delivered! |
